You Must First Understand
Since I haven’t quite got the consistency thing down yet, I’ve decided to double up for y’all this week. This poem is dated March 2, 2011. Fun fact: My youngest son was born March 2, 2023. Anywho, apparently the assignment was to write a poem giving instructions. Of course, instead of writing instructions on how to perform a simple task, I thought it’d be cool to teach people how to understand lol. Funny things is, this poem is so fitting in the current season I’m in sooooo shout out to younger me for the reminder! Here goes…
You must first understand that you aren’t the first person to travel this road, and you won’t be the last.
Realize that without failure, you won’t get the full effect of true success.
Take this as an opportunity to do better.
Get up and stop feeling sorry for yourself because I guarantee that the world doesn’t share in your pity and self doubt.
You have to believe in yourself. It’s necessary if you plan on moving from this spot.
Don’t depend on your parents or your friends.
Pray yourself through this situation.
Remember that while you may feel that you’ve hit rock bottom, someone else has gone even lower.
Don’t dwell on this though; or use other’s downfall to make you feel good about where you are.
Use it as an incentive; motivation to dust yourself off and give it another try.
Don’t give those who doubted you a reason to laugh.
Don’t. prove. them. right.
Instead, show them that you’re capable of going beyond and rising above the negativity of this world.
Demand their respect by becoming so successful that they have no. other. choice.
All of this is possible…
But you must first understand.
